Acknowledging Parent Fails

I can't speak for anyone else, but I prayed to the Lord of Heaven & Earth that if my children never gained a closeness with me, they come to know God as their Lord and Savior because ultimately they need Him more than me.

Our children were loaned to us to travel the journey of parenthood. Parenthood is a mere stage for learning how to become more Christ like. If you don't believe me, read John 3:16-17.

After having trained them to believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior; once they enter adulthood, our duty is not relieved. They have now become our brothers and sisters in Christ, and our job is to disciple them to become more disciplined Christ followers.

The fault here is that many of us missed the first lesson which was to train them up in the Word of God as He instructed us too (Proverbs 22:6, paraphrased).

In that training, they learn discipline & respect for authority. When the time comes for them to submit to the authority of God, they are clueless as to what that looks like because they received little to no instruction, poor instruction, or were shown a bad example of what a true disciple looked like.

Continue to pray for your (adult) children and pray for yourself also. Some of us need to come to terms with the fact that we didn't honor the parental authority given to us by God, and now our children don't know how to honor us.

Just know that their lives are now in the hands of God that they obtain a life of submission, repentance, and grace through the prompting of Holy Spirit and we must learn to back away because they belong to Him first.

Happy Pre-Mother's Day!
